Revolutionary forces from Battalion 3802 Column 5 of Ayeyarwady Region have captured two soldiers who escaped from the military council’s Bogyoke Aung San Interrogation Center in Hlaing Township, Yangon Region. The two captured individuals, Saw Htoo Paw and Saw Ay Nyaw, were apprehended around 8 AM on July 29 near the Minle Dam in the Bago Yoma area of Oaktwin Township.
Saw Htoo Paw, a resident of Oaktwin Township, was forcibly recruited by military council troops on March 14 while returning home on his motorcycle after selling timber near Taung Three Village. Saw Ay Nyaw, from Minle Township, was similarly forced into service on March 28 while cutting bamboo near Kaingyingyi Village. After their capture, both men were processed through their respective township administrative offices before being sent to the Yemon Military Training School in Hlegu Township, Yangon Region. There, they were enrolled in the 12th batch of military recruits and underwent 11 weeks of military training.
Following their training, they were gathered at the Bogyoke Aung San Interrogation Center in Hlaing Township, awaiting deployment to Rakhine State as part of military reinforcements. However, they managed to escape on July 21 during this staging period. A spokesperson from Battalion 3802 Column 5 confirmed that both individuals are currently being held in a secure location while further investigations are conducted. This incident highlights the military council’s ongoing practice of forced recruitment, where civilians are coerced into military service against their will, often being captured while going about their daily activities.
