Thai authorities have arrested a Thai national and a Myanmar woman at the Sankhlaburi checkpoint in Kanchanaburi province for drug trafficking. The arrest took place at 9 PM on July 26th at the Thai-Myanmar border checkpoint when inspection officers stopped a suspicious pickup truck for examination. The arrested individuals were identified as a 31-year-old Thai driver and a 26-year-old Myanmar woman.
During the detailed inspection, officers noticed irregularities in the vehicle’s doors. Upon further investigation, they discovered white and blue packages containing 9,999 methamphetamine pills hidden within the vehicle’s structure. The Thai driver claimed that the drugs had nothing to do with his Myanmar girlfriend, stating that he was only taking her to see a doctor because she was unwell.
Thai police are continuing their investigation with both suspects in custody, along with the seized evidence. They are conducting thorough inquiries into the drug trafficking operation. Such drug trafficking incidents are relatively common in the border region, and Thai authorities maintain strict enforcement measures. The estimated value of the seized drugs amounts to several hundred thousand Thai baht. The case highlights the ongoing challenges of cross-border drug trafficking and the efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat illegal drug trade in the region.
