A representative from the A.D.G Brothers, a local People’s Defense Force, has confirmed that 18 members of the military forces were killed during two days of fighting in Htone Gwin Township, Bago Region. The initial clash began on the evening of May 29 when approximately 100 military council troops entered the township area, leading to immediate engagement with revolutionary forces. Despite suffering casualties during the first day of fighting, the military column continued its advance rather than withdrawing.
The conflict intensified on May 30 at around 9 AM when the military forces pressed forward with their operation. This led to a second round of intense fighting that lasted approximately one hour. During this engagement, seven more military council troops were confirmed killed. However, the revolutionary forces were forced to temporarily withdraw due to heavy artillery fire from the military council forces. The military column’s continued advance through the area prompted resistance forces to launch a strategic sniper attack at around 4 PM, resulting in three additional military casualties. During this phase of the fighting, three resistance fighters sustained non-life-threatening injuries from military artillery fire.
The total casualty count from the two days of fighting has been confirmed at 18 dead and more than 20 wounded on the military council’s side. As of the latest reports, the military column remains in the area, having not withdrawn, creating a situation where further clashes with People’s Defense Forces could occur at any time. The revolutionary forces have issued warnings about the ongoing presence of military troops in the region and the potential for additional confrontations. The continued military presence represents a significant threat to both civilian safety and resistance operations in the Htone Gwin Township area.
