The Kalewa People’s Defense Organization has confirmed that two civilians were killed when the military council forces conducted aerial bombardments on three villages in Kalewa Township, Sagaing Region. On April 29, 2024, during the afternoon, the military council forces deliberately bombed Kywe Nan village, Sin Gaung village, and Gazet village using their Y-12 aircraft, despite there being no active fighting in the area. As a result of these airstrikes, a 58-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman from Kywe Nan and Gazet villages were killed instantly, while three other civilians sustained injuries.
The military council’s aerial attacks also destroyed three civilian homes, forcing residents to flee their villages to safer locations due to concerns for their safety. These attacks by the military council forces, resulting in civilian casualties, injuries, and destruction of property, reflect the brutal nature of the military council’s actions against its own people. Local residents have been forced to abandon their homes and seek shelter elsewhere, highlighting the ongoing humanitarian crisis caused by the military council’s indiscriminate attacks on civilian populations.
