
The Karen National Union (KNU) Central Committee has officially announced that two civilians were killed due to artillery fire from the terrorist military council following a clash between the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) Battalion 12 and the terrorist military forces in Thayet Chaung Township, Tanintharyi Region. The incident occurred near Hindu Creek in Thayet Chaung Township on July 21, when the terrorist military council’s Metta camp indiscriminately fired heavy weapons after the battle, resulting in civilian casualties.
The artillery shell from the terrorist military council directly hit a civilian vehicle, killing the driver U Yan Naing, a 39-year-old local from Mae Tami Khi (Thi Khi) area, and an unidentified woman instantly. Additionally, five other civilian passengers were injured in the attack. Currently, the terrorist military is continuing to conduct military operations in Thayet Chaung Township, and military tensions with revolutionary forces are escalating, according to local military sources and civilians.
This incident of civilian casualties caused by the terrorist military council’s indiscriminate artillery fire is not the first in the Tanintharyi Region, as similar incidents have occurred frequently in the past. Local residents express growing concerns about their safety and face daily anxiety about their security. Due to the potential intensification of fighting in the area, civilians are advised to exercise extreme caution when traveling. The ongoing military operations and escalating tensions between revolutionary forces and the terrorist military council continue to pose serious threats to civilian safety in the region.
