A representative from the Pyin Oo Lwin District People’s Defense Force has confirmed that two civilians were injured when the military council conducted airstrikes on three villages including Letku, Yaytwat, and Nyaungpin Thar villages in Salingyi Township, Mandalay Region. These airstrikes on April 20 targeted the same areas where 37 innocent civilians had been killed in the previous two days.
The military council conducted an airstrike on Nyaungpin Thar village at 1:45 PM, resulting in injuries to two civilians, though their conditions are not life-threatening. Additionally, they dropped a bomb near a karaoke shop in Letku village at 1:40 PM, and another bomb on Yaytwat village at 1:45 PM, though no casualties were reported in these incidents. These attacks followed earlier devastating airstrikes that had already caused significant civilian casualties in the area.
Prior to these attacks, on April 18 at 10:08 AM, a fighter jet from the Meiktila Shan Tat Air Base had bombed Letku village with a 300-pound bomb, killing 13 innocent civilians and injuring three others, while also destroying residential buildings. The following day, on April 19 at 1:05 PM, Yaytwat village was attacked with two 200-pound bombs, resulting in the deaths of 24 people, including children, and injuries to 30 others. The attack also caused 25 houses to burn down.
Local authorities have urged residents to dig bomb shelters and follow air defense guidelines to protect themselves from aerial attacks. The military council continues to target these areas with repeated airstrikes, resulting in significant loss of civilian lives and property. The ongoing attacks have created a humanitarian crisis in the region, with local communities suffering extensive damage to their homes and livelihoods while living under constant threat of aerial bombardment.
