The Karen National Union (KNU) Central Committee has officially announced that two civilians were injured and four houses were destroyed due to an airstrike by the terrorist military council in Luthaw Township, Papun District, Karen State. The incident occurred on April 8, 2024, at approximately 5:24 PM when the military council forces conducted an aerial bombardment targeting Blay Wah village and Htee Thae Khru village in the Lay Mu Plaw village tract of Luthaw Township.
During the air strike, two bombs were dropped, resulting in injuries to Saw Pa Na Moo, age 39, and Saw Day Si from Blay Wah village. Additionally, three houses in Blay Wah village were destroyed, and one house in Htee Thae Khru village was damaged. As a result of this terrorist military council’s aerial attack, residents of the Lay Mu Plaw village tract are living in fear, and many have been forced to flee their homes and seek shelter elsewhere in the region.
According to the KNU’s statement, the military council’s continuous aerial attacks on civilian populations are likely to worsen the humanitarian crisis in the region. The organization strongly condemns the military council’s actions, which constitute war crimes against innocent civilians. Currently, residents from villages in Luthaw Township are taking shelter in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps, where they urgently need basic necessities such as food, medicine, and proper accommodation. The situation highlights the ongoing humanitarian crisis caused by the military council’s aggressive actions against civilian populations in ethnic areas.
