Two civilians, including a 10-year-old child, were killed and five others were injured when the military council forces fired artillery shells at Kyeekone village in Chaung-U Township, Sagaing Region, without any ongoing fighting in the area. According to local sources, the incident occurred around 4:30 PM on July 29 when the military outpost at Myapyugyi fired two artillery shells into the village.
The shells landed and exploded on the main village road, instantly killing a 10-year-old child and a 30-year-old woman who were passing by. Additionally, five others were wounded in the attack, including a novice monk around 10 years of age, three boys, a 40-year-old woman, and a 60-year-old woman. The military council outposts in Chaung-U Township have been frequently firing artillery shells at villages, causing fear and anxiety among local residents who are now being advised to dig bomb shelters at every house.
Local residents face difficulties evacuating to safer areas due to their livelihood needs, despite the ongoing threat. The military council continues to target civilians using airstrikes, artillery, and drones. Revolutionary organizations have urged people to follow air defense guidelines and stay away from areas where military council columns are active. The incident highlights the ongoing pattern of indiscriminate attacks by the military council against civilian populations, even in areas where there is no active conflict, demonstrating their disregard for civilian safety and international humanitarian law.
