
Local residents reported that two civilians, including a 10-year-old child, were killed when the military council’s forces conducted an unprovoked aerial bombardment on two villages in Paungkaung Township, Bago Region. On August 19, at approximately 11:15 AM, four military helicopters approaching from Thayetkon town launched an attack using 12 bombs on Kyaukpyintha and Hlanpin villages in Paungkaung Township, despite there being no active fighting in the area.
The aerial attack resulted in the immediate deaths of U Thein Zaw, age 38, and his son Maung Thet Paing Zaw, age 10, from Kyaukpyintha village. Additionally, four other villagers were injured in the attack, with one person reported to be in critical condition. While there were no casualties in Hlanpin village, several houses were damaged in the bombardment. The bodies of the father and son who lost their lives were properly cremated later that evening, according to local sources.
In a similar incident on August 15, two military helicopters from Thayetkon direction conducted another unprovoked attack on Kyemchaung village, dropping four 300-pound bombs. This earlier attack resulted in the deaths of six civilians and left five others injured, according to documented records. These deliberate attacks by military council forces on civilian populations have created an atmosphere of fear and anxiety among local residents, who now face daily threats to their lives and safety in the region.
