
Two children were injured in an airstrike by the military council near Maw Wan Lay monastery in Hpakant Township, Kachin State, according to military sources from the Kachin Independence Army (KIA). The incident occurred around 3:17 PM on June 19, when a fighter jet from the Tataoo Air Base conducted bombing raids and opened fire with machine guns in the area. The village of Maw Wan Lay is currently occupied by military council troops.
On the evening of June 18 and the morning of June 19, joint forces of the KIA and Kachin People’s Defense Force (KPDF) launched attacks against military council troops stationed in Maw Wan Lay village. During these clashes, artillery support was provided from the military base in Hpakant. Additionally, on June 17, joint forces attacked the military council outpost at Maw Si Za Hill, resulting in the deaths of over 20 military council personnel, including Major Phyo Thut Zaw from the Kan Ser strategic command.
Since the arrival of military council forces led by Colonel Zaw Win, commander of Infantry Division 3 based in Moekaung Township, more than 30 local civilians have been killed, causing great fear among residents of Hpakant. Currently, residents of Maw Wan Lay and Maw Wan Gyi villages have been forced to flee as internally displaced persons, while fighting continues throughout the Hpakant region. KIA military sources have warned local residents in the Hpakant area to remain vigilant about the ongoing military situation.
