On July 23 in Yangon, a protest march was held to commemorate the third anniversary of the unjust execution of four individuals – Ko Phyo Zeya Thaw, Ko Kyaw Min Yu (aka Jimmy), Ko Aung Thu Ra Zaw, and Ko Hla Myo Aung – who were killed by the terrorist military council on a main road in Shwebo Township, Sagaing Region. The march also honored Ma Wut Yee Aung, a central executive committee member of Dagon University Students’ Union, who died due to torture while in detention.
The protest march was jointly organized by the Shwebo Township Strike Force and the 5/Ayataw People’s Strike groups. Participants carried meaningful banners and placards during the march. One notable banner read ‘Even if we become earth, our remaining generation will wear the golden crown.’ The protesters also chanted slogans such as ‘Do you want to write history with bullets in the name of might is right? You can only write that history after eliminating this generation of students.’ These powerful messages reflected the protesters’ determination and resistance against military rule.
This protest march served as a tribute to the heroes who sacrificed their lives in the fight against the military dictatorship, while also raising the fighting spirit of the people for the elimination of the military dictatorship system. The participating civilians demonstrated their continued fearless resistance against the oppression of the terrorist military council. The march highlighted that despite three years passing since these tragic executions, the people’s movement against military rule remains strong and unwavering in their commitment to achieving democracy and justice for Myanmar.
