On March 15, the Kalay People’s Strike Leading Committee organized a public event commemorating the third anniversary of the prison movement at Mawlaik-Kalay Prison in Sagaing Region, alongside the People’s Education Strike Column. The event was well-attended by local residents, political activists, and youth participants who gathered to mark this significant milestone.
The Mawlaik-Kalay Prison has become a historic site in the people’s struggle against the military dictatorship, with prison movements beginning after the 2021 military coup. Political prisoners within the facility have engaged in various forms of resistance, including protests and strikes against the military regime. This commemoration marks three years since the inception of these prison-based resistance activities.
During the ceremony, former political prisoners who led the prison movements shared their experiences, documented the history of the prison struggle, and discussed current conditions within the facility. The participants also renewed their commitment to continuing the fight for democracy. The event served as both a memorial and a reminder of the ongoing resistance against military rule, highlighting the determination of the people to persist in their struggle for democratic rights and freedoms.
