The National Liberation Army (NLA) has confirmed that three of its soldiers were killed and nine others were wounded during the battle for Falam city in Chin State, according to Ko Phyo, the NLA’s Information and Communication Officer, who spoke to Yangon Modern News Agency. The major offensive, known as Operation Chin Brotherhood (CB), began on November 9, 2024, as a coordinated effort between Chin allied forces and their revolutionary partners. The operation culminated in the declaration of Falam Township as a military council-free zone on April 9, 2025, following the capture of the last remaining military stronghold, Infantry Battalion 268.
The operation involved collaboration between Chin Brotherhood forces and the NLA units based in Sagaing Region’s Tamu District, specifically in the northwest Kabaw region. Throughout the offensive, the military council employed extensive airstrikes, which created significant challenges for logistics and the evacuation of wounded soldiers. Despite these obstacles, the revolutionary forces persevered through their determination and tactical coordination. The success of the operation was attributed to the military expertise and support from the Arakan Army (AA), including strategic advice and provision of military supplies, as well as crucial cooperation from Falam’s local residents.
The NLA has formally recognized and honored the sacrifices made by their fallen comrades and those who sustained injuries during the operation, pledging to preserve their legacy in historical records. In their commemorative statement, the NLA emphasized their commitment to continuing the fight alongside their ethnic allies until the complete elimination of the military dictatorship. The liberation of Falam represents a significant victory for the revolutionary forces, demonstrating the effectiveness of coordinated resistance operations against the military council’s forces. The success of this operation has been celebrated as a testament to the courage, resilience, and unified effort of various revolutionary groups and local communities in their struggle for freedom and democracy.
