The Chin Defense Force (Asho) has captured three new military recruits who fled from the Nat Ye Kan Air Defense Base in Ngape Township, Magway Region, along with their weapons. The incident occurred on June 4th when the new recruits escaped while performing forward sentry duty at the air defense base. The captured soldiers were found in possession of three MA-type rifles and related ammunition, which were subsequently seized by the resistance forces.
According to Salai Ro Chin, spokesperson for the Chin Defense Force (Asho), the majority of personnel stationed at the Nat Ye Kan Air Defense Base are members of the People’s Militia Force (Pyithu Sit). Due to their lack of military experience, many of these conscripted individuals are unable to withstand the harsh conditions of the frontline battlefield, leading to frequent desertions. The spokesperson noted that the three currently detained soldiers represent only the initial captures, and further announcements will be made if more deserters are apprehended.
The Chin Defense Force has urged military personnel stationed at the Nat Ye Kan Air Defense Base, particularly those forcibly recruited into the People’s Militia Force, to establish contact with revolutionary forces and defect. The Nat Ye Kan Air Defense Base currently serves as a significant installation for the military council and has been identified as a location where local civilians face oppression. As a result, revolutionary forces have been targeting the base, and there has been a continuous stream of desertions from within its ranks. The situation highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the military council in maintaining control over its forced recruits and the growing strength of resistance forces in the region.
