A military column that entered Pazunmyaing village in Nyaunglebin Township, Bago Region, engaged in combat with local resistance forces, resulting in the death of three military personnel including an officer and injuries to at least five others, according to confirmation from the P2-3703 Fire Dragon Column. The incident began around 5:20 AM on April 20, 2024, when a military force of approximately 60 personnel attempted to enter Pazunmyaing village with drone and air support.
The military column encountered resistance forces’ forward positions as they attempted to enter the village, leading to immediate engagement. During the battle, the military deployed two drones for attacks and utilized heavy artillery support. Despite also calling in air support from an MI-35 attack helicopter, the resistance forces had secured advantageous positions and managed to avoid casualties. The military forces were forced to retreat after suffering casualties, and although they attempted to mount additional attacks, these proved unsuccessful according to a member of the Fire Dragon Column.
The current situation remains tense with both sides maintaining their positions in an ongoing standoff. The resistance forces continue to hold their defensive positions effectively, preventing further military advancement into the area. The clash demonstrates the increasing capabilities of resistance forces in defending territory against military operations, even when faced with superior firepower including air assets. The military’s use of both ground and air assets, including drones, artillery, and attack helicopters, highlights the intensity of their attempted operation, which was ultimately repelled by the well-positioned resistance forces.
