In a significant development in Pakokku, Magway Region, three police officers under the military council were captured alive by People’s Defense Forces while attempting to visit a karaoke establishment. The incident occurred around 2 PM on May 18, when Police Lance Corporal Thiha Aung, Police Private Hla Bun, and Police Private Sone Yu Lwin left their military council checkpoint in Bongon village on motorcycles, heading towards a KTV venue in Pakokku city.
According to Ko Aung Maung, the commander of Southern YSO PDF, Bongon village is approximately one mile from Pakokku city and has been completely evacuated by its residents due to military council oppression. The captured officers were identified as district-level police personnel who had been assigned to various checkpoints through the city police station command structure. The commander confirmed that the captured personnel are currently being detained in accordance with international laws regarding prisoners of war.
The operation was carried out through a coordinated effort of multiple resistance groups, including Southern YSO PDF, Daung Nyi Naung, Yesagyo Revolution Group (YRG), People’s Force PDF YSO, King Cobra, and Daung Sit Thae groups. During the capture, the resistance forces seized three mobile phones, 198,000 kyats in cash, and two hand grenades from the detained officers. This incident serves as an example of both the undisciplined behavior of military council forces in the region and the effective operations of People’s Defense Forces in maintaining security for civilians.
