A military ambush between Ani and Gaungkwe villages in Myingyan Township, Mandalay Region on the evening of June 17 resulted in the deaths of three people, including Russia-trained army captain Pyae Phyo Kyaw and Pyu Saw Htee leader Min Thike. The incident occurred when the local resistance group Myingyan Black Tiger (MBT) intercepted a convoy departing from Myingyan city.
At the time of the attack, Russia-trained army captain Pyae Phyo Kyaw was traveling with Pyu Saw Htee leader Min Thike from Ani Thapaung village group and soldier Paing Soe, with a total of four people in the vehicle. According to Colonel Mike Khae, leader of the Myingyan Black Tiger force, they had planned for a close-range attack based on intelligence suggesting only one vehicle would be present. However, when the actual attack occurred, there were two vehicles, which prevented them from seizing any weapons. The resistance fighters were able to safely withdraw after the operation.
During the attack, three of the four occupants in the vehicle were killed, while Sergeant Major Mutt Sate was severely injured. The bodies of the deceased and the injured person were retrieved by a team led by Thida Yu Mon, the Pyu Saw Htee leader of Myingyan Township. The injured Sergeant Major was transported to Myingyan Township People’s Hospital. It was reported that Thida Yu Mon retained the body of deceased Pyu Saw Htee leader Min Thike for burial arrangements instead of returning it to his family.
