The terrorist military forces conducted an aerial attack on two IDP camps west of Pekon town, located on the border of Shan State and Kayah State, resulting in the death of three family members including a 4-year-old child, according to confirmation from the Pekon Township People’s Police Force. The attack occurred around 10:30 PM on July 7th, targeting innocent civilians who had sought refuge in the camps. The casualties included a 26-year-old woman, a 26-year-old man, and a 4-year-old child who were killed instantly in the bombing.
Additionally, three other civilians were injured in the attack, with one pregnant woman suffering severe injuries. The terrorist military forces dropped a total of five bombs during the assault, with three bombs targeting one location and two bombs striking another area within the IDP camps. Reports indicate that one unexploded bomb remains within the camp premises. Military propaganda channels have attempted to spread false information, claiming that the airstrikes targeted PDF camps rather than civilian shelters. This deliberate misinformation campaign aims to justify their attacks on innocent displaced civilians.
This deliberate targeting of civilian IDP camps constitutes a war crime and violates international humanitarian law, as declared by human rights organizations. The internally displaced people, who have already fled their homes due to armed conflict, now face life-threatening situations even in their places of refuge. The terrorist military’s targeting of IDP camps clearly demonstrates their continued commission of war crimes against innocent civilians. These attacks on vulnerable displaced populations highlight the ongoing pattern of violence against civilians by the military forces, who continue to disregard basic human rights and international humanitarian principles in their operations against their own people.
