According to local residents and the Karenni Emergency Response Team (CTER), a military artillery strike in Demoso Township, Karenni State, has resulted in the death of a father, mother, and grandmother from the same family, while their children sustained injuries. The incident occurred on September 11 at approximately 10:30 PM when the military continuously fired heavy artillery into Demoso Township, with one shell hitting a residential home. The impact resulted in the immediate death of three family members from the same household, while the children present in the house were wounded in the attack.
Throughout Demoso Township, civilians are experiencing mass displacement as military columns advance in two to three separate formations, forcing people to relocate to safer areas. The situation is further complicated by the threats of artillery strikes, airstrikes, and drone attacks. Approximately two months ago, even established IDP camps had to be relocated due to security concerns. Currently, displaced persons are seeking shelter in forested areas and locations secured by revolutionary forces, unable to gather in large groups as they did previously, according to a youth volunteer involved in IDP assistance efforts.
While the military maintains control over the town center and majority of Demoso Township territory, revolutionary forces continue to engage in guerrilla warfare tactics. Military columns are preparing to advance from Demoso Township toward Pekon Township, but face daily confrontations due to coordinated resistance from revolutionary forces, according to a revolutionary news source. Local civilians continue to live in fear due to the military’s artillery strikes, airstrikes, and ground operations in the area. The ongoing conflict has created a humanitarian crisis with residents facing constant threats to their safety and security while struggling to find safe havens from the military’s offensive operations.
