The military council conducted an aerial bombing using 500-pound bombs near Kwin Gyi village in Hteechaing Township, Sagaing Region, resulting in the death of three buffaloes and the destruction of a fuel shop, according to local residents. The airstrike occurred around 5 PM on March 8, with bombs falling outside Kwin Gyi village, causing no civilian casualties. The bombing created large craters where the bombs landed, and one buffalo was found dead after being thrown onto a tree by the blast impact.
According to a Kwin Gyi villager, one bomb fell near a kokko tree at the village entrance intersection, causing a fuel shop to catch fire and killing three buffaloes, though no human casualties were reported. Another bomb landed in a field near an agricultural center between Kwin Gyi village and Pauk Kone village, creating large craters where the bombs exploded. The villager noted that they were fortunate the bombs did not fall directly within the villages.
Kwin Gyi village, which is located near the bombing site, has approximately 200 households, and most of its residents have been forced to flee their homes due to the military council’s ongoing airstrikes. Local residents report that the military council deliberately targets civilian areas with airstrikes even in the absence of active fighting, resulting in the destruction of lives and property and forcing people to live in constant fear. The military’s indiscriminate bombing has caused significant displacement and continues to threaten the safety and security of local communities.
