Local residents reported that three buffaloes were killed and a fuel shop was destroyed when the military council forces conducted an airstrike using 500-pound bombs near Kwin Gyi village in Htee Chaing Township, Sagaing Region, despite there being no active fighting in the area. The airstrike occurred around 5 PM on March 8, with bombs falling outside the village area, resulting in no civilian casualties. One buffalo was thrown by the blast and found dead hanging in a tree, while the explosions created large craters in the areas surrounding the village.
According to a Kwin Gyi villager, one bomb fell near a neem tree at the village entrance intersection, causing a fuel shop to catch fire and killing three buffaloes. Another bomb landed in a paddy field near an agricultural center between Kwin Gyi village and Pauk Kone village. The villager reported that large craters were formed where the bombs fell, but fortunately, none hit within the village itself, preventing any human casualties. The targeted area near the agricultural center and the village entrance sustained significant damage from the explosions.
Kwin Gyi village, home to approximately 200 households, has seen most of its residents forced to flee and become internally displaced due to the military council’s ongoing airstrikes. Despite the absence of any active conflict in the area, the military council continues to deliberately target civilian areas with aerial bombardment, resulting in the destruction of lives and property and forcing local residents to live in constant fear and anxiety. The indiscriminate bombing of civilian areas has caused significant displacement and disruption to the lives of local communities, according to residents from the area.
