The Three Allied Forces have announced a unilateral one-month ceasefire on April 1st to facilitate effective earthquake relief operations in Myanmar. According to their announcement, they will suspend offensive operations in conflict areas from April 1st to April 30th, maintaining only defensive responses when necessary. This decision was made in consideration of the extensive damage and losses suffered by civilians due to the recent powerful earthquake that struck the country.
Between March 28th and 30th, a powerful earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale, followed by numerous aftershocks, caused widespread destruction across multiple regions in Myanmar, including Sagaing Region, Mandalay Region, Shan State, Bago Region, and Naypyidaw. The natural disaster resulted in significant losses of life, property, and livestock. The earthquake damaged residential buildings, schools, hospitals, rural health clinics, religious structures including pagodas, mosques, and other religious buildings, as well as countless irreplaceable historical and cultural heritage sites.
After carefully monitoring the situation in earthquake-affected areas, the Three Allied Forces declared this one-month ceasefire to ensure that both domestic and international humanitarian workers can safely conduct their relief operations. The ceasefire aims to facilitate the urgent delivery of humanitarian assistance to earthquake victims and enable rescue operations to proceed without interruption. The announcement also emphasized their full commitment to cooperating with relief efforts, rehabilitation work, and humanitarian assistance programs during this period, ensuring these critical activities can be carried out without any hindrance.
