Local residents report that thousands of civilians have been forced to flee to safety after military forces from the Wanbao Company launched operations in villages along the border of Yinmabin and Salingyi Townships in Sagaing Region, with one local youth being detained. On the evening of April 2, after copper transport vehicles and acid-carrying trucks departed from the Wanbao Company, military council troops began operations along the Monywa-Pathein road. The military column opened fire on villages with heavy and small arms as they advanced through the area.
The military column is currently positioned near the North Yamar Bridge along the Monywa-Pathein road, where they have detained one local youth. Due to indiscriminate firing of heavy weapons and small arms by military council troops, residents from more than three villages, numbering in the thousands, have been forced to flee to safety. According to a local resident, the military operations began around 7 PM on April 2 when vehicles started leaving the Wanbao Company. The military council troops, claiming to provide security, arrived along the Monywa-Pathein road and began firing heavy weapons and small arms at villages on both sides of the road from the North Yamar Bridge area.
As a result of the attacks, approximately three thousand residents from more than three villages have been displaced, and one youth has been detained, though their village of origin has not been confirmed. The civilians continue to remain displaced due to ongoing weapons fire from military council troops, and the military column has not yet withdrawn from the area. The situation has created a humanitarian crisis as thousands of villagers are forced to abandon their homes and seek refuge in safer locations, while facing uncertainty about when they might be able to return.
