A responsible official from the Bagan-Nyaung-U People’s Defense Force (Yan Gyi Aung PDF) has confirmed that thousands of civilians are fleeing to safety as the military council forces conduct operations, burning civilian homes and looting valuable possessions in Nyaung-U Township, Mandalay Region. On April 3rd afternoon, a military column of approximately 200 troops entered Myay Laung Zar village in Nyaung-U Township and burned down four civilian houses. Additionally, on April 2nd, they entered Kyauk Pyin Kan village, burned down one house, and forcibly seized six civilian-owned motorcycles.
The military council forces gathered in the Ganga area before advancing toward Myay Laung Zar village with armored vehicles, conducting arson attacks. The military troops stationed at Myay Thant Taung fired heavy weapons and launched drone attacks to intimidate civilians. They also shot at fleeing civilians from behind. Currently, residents from Myay Thant Taung, Myay Laung Zar, and Kyauk Pyin Kan areas have been forced to abandon their homes, while the military council maintains its foothold in the region.
Furthermore, approximately 200 military council troops from Chauk town are advancing with full armaments toward the Taik Ma oil field area south of Bagan-Nyaung-U to reinforce their positions. They have also established checkpoints along the Salingyi road and are conducting inspections. At present, the military council forces have stationed troops in Myay Thant Taung village, Nat Pa Lin village, Ganga village, and Kye O village in the southern part of Bagan-Nyaung-U. They have taken civilians from nearby houses as hostages and confiscated their mobile phones, according to responsible officials.
