
Thousands of civilians in Shwebo Township, Sagaing Region, have been forced to flee their homes due to military operations conducted by the armed forces. According to local sources, beginning May 14, a military column of approximately 50 troops from Training Unit No. 8 in Shwebo advanced to their stationed base in Minkon, after which they began firing heavy weapons at civilian villages and conducting offensive operations in the area.
The military has split into two columns to carry out operations in villages in the southeastern part of Shwebo Township, including Wachontaing, Nyaungbinkone, Thatchopin, Chaungzone, Nyaunkan, and Kyaungpankan villages. On the evening of May 16, an additional military column comprising more than 60 troops from the training unit emerged and raided Kyaungpankan, Nyaunkan, and Chaungzone villages, where they reportedly destroyed civilian property.
Reports indicate that civilians seeking shelter at the monastery in Wachontaing village have been detained by the military, along with three men who were separately arrested. Currently, thousands of displaced civilians from Wachontaing, Nyaungbinkone, Thatchopin, Chaungzone, Nyaunkan, Kyaungpankan, and surrounding villages are in urgent need of medical supplies and food rations, according to local residents.
