Thousands of civilians have been forced to flee their homes as the military council continues to conduct airstrikes and artillery attacks on villages in Myingyan Township, Thaung Tha Township in Mandalay Region, and Wetlet Township in Sagaing Region. According to local residents and a representative from the Wetlet Information Network, the military has been using Y-12 aircraft and heavy weapons to carry out these attacks. Starting from around 8 AM on August 12, the military conducted at least 14 airstrikes using Y-12 aircraft on villages in the eastern part of Myingyan Township. While the extent of civilian casualties from these airstrikes cannot yet be confirmed, residents from the affected villages have been forced to evacuate to safer locations.
The military forces stationed in Myingyan town have been continuously firing howitzer artillery towards the Mingwun mountain range near the border of Wetlet Township. Additionally, the military has conducted at least four bombing raids using mechanized paratroopers from the Meiktila Air Base on areas along the border of Thaung Tha and Malun townships. On August 11, around 2 AM, approximately 10 bombs were dropped on villages in Thaung Tha and Malun townships. Although no civilian casualties were reported from this particular attack, the continuous daily air raids have made it impossible for villagers to remain in their homes, forcing them to flee to other areas for safety.
The military council’s ongoing air strikes and artillery attacks have created severe hardships for local civilians, who are facing food shortages and displacement, with elderly people, children, and women being particularly vulnerable. While internally displaced persons camps are experiencing shortages of food, medicine, and basic necessities, the military continues to block humanitarian aid efforts. Local residents have been forced to abandon their farmlands and livelihoods, with no clear timeline for when they might be able to return to their homes. The situation has created a humanitarian crisis in the region, with thousands of civilians living in uncertainty and fear due to the military’s continued offensive operations.
