
Thousands of civilians have been forced to flee their homes in Kyauktaw Township, Rakhine State, due to airstrikes by the military council. On May 14 and 15, the military council conducted consecutive days of aerial bombardment, resulting in the deaths of seven civilians, including children, and leaving at least 11 others seriously injured. Local residents report that most of the town’s population has evacuated to safer areas due to fears of further airstrikes by the military council.
The military council deployed three fighter jets to conduct at least four airstrikes near Ywa Ma Ward and the Agricultural School in Kyauktaw Town. These attacks caused destruction to civilian homes and created widespread panic among the population. On May 13, the military council also bombed Htun Ywa Wei village in Rathedaung Township, killing 12 civilians and injuring 23 others. The consecutive attacks have caused severe anxiety among local residents, forcing them to abandon their homes and flee to safety. The Arakan Army (AA) has stated that they are documenting these mass killings of Rakhine civilians by the military council and will submit evidence to international organizations.
Similarly, in Kyaikto Township, Mon State, frequent artillery shelling and aerial attacks by the military have forced 2,721 residents from Win Kan, Bawkahta, Kyauk Ye Win, Kalawmyaing, Shan Su, and Anya Su villages in the Win Kan village tract to flee their homes. The military has been deliberately targeting civilian areas, causing residents to flee in fear for their lives, abandoning their properties and possessions. These internally displaced people are in urgent need of shelter, food supplies, and healthcare services. The military council has been conducting indiscriminate attacks, including firing at least 11 rounds of 120mm artillery shells into Kyaikto Township on May 14, and three 122mm artillery shells on May 13 at 9:12 PM when there was no active fighting. Additionally, on May 14, the military conducted airstrikes in the Kyauk Hpya village tract area of Kyaikto Township, as reported by the KNU.
