At the funeral ceremony of acting president Myint Swe, representing the terrorist military, held in Naypyidaw on August 12, former dictator Senior General Than Shwe did not attend personally but sent his grandson Nay Shwe Thway Aung as his representative. The funeral was attended by numerous former military leaders and senior officials, including former president Thein Sein, former Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw General Shwe Mann, Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo who had long disappeared from public view, former vice president Nyan Htun, former election commission chairman Tin Aye, and almost all former generals.
During the funeral ceremony, military council leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing greeted and paid respects to former president Thein Sein, Tin Aung Myint Oo, Tin Aye, and other retired senior generals, but notably did not acknowledge former general Thura Shwe Mann, according to military sources in Naypyidaw. The funeral was also attended by Myint Swe’s family members, relatives, current military officers, former officials, and numerous members of the military council.
Military sources in Naypyidaw revealed that Min Aung Hlaing deliberately ignored Shwe Mann while making a point to greet all other retired senior generals. The memorial service for Myint Swe will continue to be held at the vice president’s residence in Naypyidaw on August 13. This ceremony is also expected to be attended by former military officers and military council members.
