Thai authorities have confirmed that fighting broke out along the Thai-Cambodian border this morning, stemming from territorial disputes between the two nations. The exchange of fire began after 8 AM, with both sides accusing each other of initiating the conflict. The Cambodian military launched attacks on a Thai military base in Surin province and fired missiles into the city area. The incident has resulted in significant property damage in Thailand’s Surin province and claimed the lives of two Thai civilians. Earlier in the morning, a Cambodian drone was spotted flying near the Ta Muen Thom temple ruins, followed by six Cambodian soldiers approaching Thai military base perimeter fencing with full weaponry, including RPGs, while causing disturbances.
At 8:20 AM, Cambodian forces attacked the Thai military’s Muepa camp near the temple with both small arms and heavy weapons, resulting in one Thai soldier being wounded. In recent days, landmines planted by Cambodia along the border exploded, injuring five Thai soldiers, with one losing a leg. The situation has escalated diplomatic tensions between the two countries, leading to mutual summoning of ambassadors. Current diplomatic and military relations between the two nations have reached their most tense point, with both sides maintaining heightened alert status along the border area.
