According to a survey conducted by the Blue Shirt organization during the four years following the military coup, State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi maintains the highest level of public trust, while the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) ranks second in public confidence. In contrast, Min Aung Hlaing and the military council have fallen to the lowest levels of public trust.
The survey was conducted from March 21 to 25 this year across 237 townships in Myanmar, with 2,808 citizens participating. Titled ‘Public Perspectives on the Present and Future Prospects of Myanmar’s Spring Revolution After Four Years,’ the survey included 1,831 young people aged between 18 and 35 years. The comprehensive study aimed to gauge public sentiment toward various political actors and institutions during this critical period in Myanmar’s history.
The survey results revealed that 7 out of 10 respondents expressed trust in the key actors of the Spring Revolution. Notably, 67 percent of young respondents indicated their trust in Aung San Suu Kyi. The People’s Defense Forces received the second-highest level of public confidence, demonstrating strong support for the resistance movement. In stark contrast, 80 percent of young respondents expressed complete distrust in Min Aung Hlaing.
The findings also showed that 7 out of 10 respondents expressed distrust in the military council and military institutions. These results clearly demonstrate that public confidence in military council chairman Min Aung Hlaing and the Myanmar military has reached its lowest point. The survey results clearly indicate that the public maintains higher trust in democratic leaders and revolutionary forces while showing almost complete lack of confidence in the violent military and its council. This comprehensive survey provides valuable insights into the current state of public opinion in Myanmar, highlighting the stark contrast between support for democratic forces and rejection of military rule.
