Resistance forces successfully launched an attack using 107mm rockets against the Northwestern Command Headquarters (NaCaKa) based in Monywa, Sagaing Region. According to a spokesperson from Brave Warriors for Myanmar (BWM), the attack occurred at 6:49 PM on May 25, with six out of seven launched rockets successfully hitting their targets within the military headquarters compound. The attack resulted in immediate retaliatory fire from inside the headquarters, suggesting significant damage and possible casualties among military council forces, though detailed assessment is still ongoing.
The operation was jointly carried out by BWM, No More Dictatorship (NMD), and Shadow (Monywa) groups, with crucial support from local resistance forces including Yan Gyi Aung Group, Budalin Mobile Team, local People’s Defense Forces, Golden Triangle Alliance Battalion, and Justice Brothers Force. The Northwestern Command Headquarters serves as the main military installation controlling military council operations across Sagaing Region, northern Magway Region, and Chin State. It plays a pivotal role in directing military operations against resistance forces in these areas.
The headquarters is particularly significant as it serves as the primary storage facility for helicopter gunships that have been terrorizing civilians in the central regions. It also functions as the main command center responsible for coordinating airstrikes and civilian targeted operations in the region, including the notorious bombing of Oat Htein Kwin village. Due to its strategic importance in the military council’s operations against civilians and its role in coordinating attacks on the local population, BWM and its allied forces designated this attack as their Mission 39. The resistance forces emphasized that this operation demonstrates that military council forces cannot expect to be safe anywhere, as the people’s resistance continues to grow stronger and more coordinated in their efforts to dismantle the military regime’s control over the country.
