
A tragic incident occurred at Military Training and Accommodation Unit No. 3 in Naypyidaw on June 9, where a soldier fatally stabbed a new recruit named Nan Saung with scissors. According to military sources, the incident stemmed from a dispute over food provisions that began in the evening hours. The initial argument between the soldier and the new recruit escalated during the evening roll call at 7 PM. Later that night, around midnight, the perpetrator, who had been drinking alcohol, carried out the fatal attack.
The assault took place when the victim, Nan Saung, was heading to the bathroom. The attacker followed the new recruit and stabbed him in the neck with scissors. Nan Saung suffered severe neck injuries and collapsed on the grass near the bathroom facility. Although camp authorities rushed to transport the injured recruit to the Naypyidaw 1000-bed Military Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries during transit due to excessive blood loss. The perpetrator was immediately arrested and detained pending further investigation and disciplinary action.
The body of the deceased recruit Nan Saung is currently being held at the morgue of the Naypyidaw 1000-bed Military Hospital, and his family has been notified of the incident. In response to this violent incident, the Director of Military Training personally visited Military Training and Accommodation Unit No. 3 in Naypyidaw to conduct an investigation. During his visit, he severely reprimanded the unit’s personnel regarding disciplinary matters and security protocols. This incident of internal violence reflects serious issues with discipline and management within the military ranks, while also highlighting the negative consequences of forced military service and the broader problems within the military institution.
