A representative from the People’s Servant Revolution – Wetlet has confirmed that six military council soldiers have defected with their weapons in Wetlet Township, Sagaing Region. These defections occurred in stages between September 2024 and April 2025. The first defection took place on September 5, 2024, when a militia member from the Wetlet town guard force defected with one AK rifle and one carbine rifle.
Subsequently, on January 5, 2025, after the arrival of a military council reinforcement column from Infantry Division 33 at Sheinmakha Police Station, two military council soldiers defected with two MA-1 rifles. On March 28, a soldier from Light Infantry Battalion 610, which was stationed in Wetlet town, defected with one MA-1 rifle. Finally, on April 2, 2025, two military council soldiers who were on duty in Wetlet town from the Regional Military Command defected with MA-11 and MA-2 rifles.
The People’s Servant Revolution – Wetlet representative revealed that in some cases, they had to conduct extraction operations when contacted by the defectors. Regarding rewards for the defectors, these were handled according to the military zone’s directives. These defections reflect the declining morale and loss of confidence within the military council’s forces, as evidenced by the increasing number of soldiers choosing to leave their posts with their weapons.
