The Kachin Region People’s Defense Force (KPDF-Hopin) military affairs officer Ko Phway Sein has confirmed that six members of the military council forces, including two officers, were killed during clashes at Inkyin Kone village in Moekaung Township, Kachin State. The fighting occurred when KPDF forces launched attacks against positions held by the military council-affiliated Shan State North Army (SNA) and militia forces.
The battles took place on August 1st, with three separate engagements occurring throughout the day. According to reports, approximately 70 military council-affiliated troops and militia members were stationed at Inkyin Kone village. The first clash erupted in the morning when military council forces launched an offensive, followed by counterattacks by the People’s Defense Force during the afternoon and evening hours against the military council’s camp positions.
During the fighting, six military council personnel were killed, including two officers and four soldiers, while twelve others were wounded. The People’s Defense Force also suffered one casualty in the engagement, as confirmed by their military affairs officer. The region has been experiencing ongoing oppression of local civilians by military council forces, and People’s Defense Forces continue to engage in combat operations to protect the security of local residents. The military council’s presence in the area has been characterized by forced recruitment and various forms of civilian persecution, leading to continued resistance from local defense forces working to protect their communities.
