
On April 26th at 8:53 PM, residents of Mandalay, Sagaing, and Kyaukse experienced a notable earthquake that caused significant concern among local populations. Although the tremor lasted only seconds, people reported feeling distinct shaking and swaying movements, according to accounts shared with Yangon Modern News Agency. During the earthquake, buildings, furniture, and other objects produced loud rattling sounds that were clearly audible to residents.
A resident from Mandalay described experiencing the earthquake with rattling sounds from household items accompanied by a roaring noise during the tremor. Similarly, a resident from Zeyar Ward in Sagaing city reported that while the earthquake consisted of a single shock, buildings noticeably swayed, creating a sensation of being pushed or thrown off balance.
According to a statement from the National Unity Government’s Ministry of Natural Disaster Management and Social Rescue, the earthquake measured approximately 4.0 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter located 10 kilometers below ground near Kyaukse city in Mandalay Region. This seismic event has been identified as an aftershock of the major 7.7 magnitude earthquake that occurred on March 28th. The ministry advised residents to remain vigilant and follow earthquake safety guidelines, as additional aftershocks may continue to occur.
Records from the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology indicate that there have been 156 aftershocks recorded since the major earthquake on March 28th. Local residents have been taking precautionary measures, with many choosing to sleep outdoors due to earthquake concerns and making preparations for emergency situations.
