In Yinmabin Township, Sagaing Region, the Shwe Yay Kyun Strike Column led a protest against the sham election planned by the military council on September 16. During the protest, demonstrators raised victory flags and primarily focused on opposing the military dictatorship and rejecting the fraudulent election. The Shwe Yay Kyun Strike Column continues to carry out anti-dictatorship activities with the support of local residents.
Although the military council has announced plans to hold elections in 2025, the public and democratic forces strongly oppose it, declaring it illegitimate and fraudulent. Since the military coup in 2021, the council has continuously committed acts of violence, detention, and killings against civilians. The military council’s actions have been marked by ongoing oppression and human rights violations against the people of Myanmar.
During the protest led by the Shwe Yay Kyun Strike Column, local residents united in demonstration, demanding the complete end of the military dictatorship and the establishment of a federal democratic system. Protesters also called for an end to violence against civilians and the release of political prisoners. The demonstrators strongly condemned the military council’s planned sham election as merely an attempt to legitimize the military dictatorship. The protest highlighted the continued resistance of the Myanmar people against the military council’s attempts to maintain power through illegitimate means.
