During the protest led by the Shwe Yay Kyun Strike Column, local residents united in demonstration, demanding the complete end of the military dictatorship and the establishment of a federal democratic system. Protesters also called for an end to violence against civilians and the release of political prisoners. The demonstrators strongly condemned the military council’s planned sham election as merely an attempt to legitimize the military dictatorship.
