On July 19th, Martyrs’ Day, at approximately 10:30 AM, the military conducted an airstrike on Kan Thar village in Natmauk Township, Magway Region, resulting in the destruction of a school building and damage to local pagodas, according to local residents. The airstrike was reportedly carried out without any ongoing fighting in the area, indicating a deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure.
The school complex, which consisted of four buildings, saw one building completely destroyed in the attack, while several pagodas in the village also sustained significant damage. The attack occurred during school holidays, fortunately preventing any casualties among students. A local resident confirmed that it was particularly fortunate that the attack happened when children were not present at the school, as it could have resulted in significant casualties otherwise.
Reports from local residents and revolutionary forces indicate that the military has intensified its air operations against villages in both Magway and Sagaing regions during Martyrs’ Day. These deliberate attacks on civilian areas have caused significant concern among local populations. The military’s continued targeting of civilian infrastructure, including educational facilities and religious buildings, has created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty in these regions.
