Revolutionary forces successfully attacked and captured a military outpost stationed at the Monhwa toll gate along the Monywa-Mandalay highway in Sagaing Region’s Monywa Township, according to resistance sources. The battle, which began at 4:35 AM on September 16, lasted approximately one hour before the revolutionary forces completely seized control of the outpost. During the engagement, eight military soldiers were killed while five resistance fighters sustained minor injuries.
During the operation, revolutionary forces seized various military equipment including five weapons, two bulletproof helmets, one bulletproof vest, and various types of ammunition including carbine rounds. The attack was led by Monywa District Battalion 24 in coordination with Budalin Chindwin Brothers and local revolutionary alliance groups. After the battle, resistance forces had to withdraw when military reinforcements arrived in the morning, according to a resistance fighter.
Currently, the military has closed the Monywa-Mandalay highway and deployed reinforcements to conduct clearance operations in response to the capture of the Monhwa toll gate outpost. The road closure has resulted in hundreds of vehicles being stranded, with some forced to turn back, according to local residents and drivers. The military’s clearance operations have created significant travel difficulties for local civilians, and the security situation in the area remains tense according to reports.
