Revolutionary forces conducted an attack on the military council’s Nyaung Khar Shay X-Ray checkpoint located on the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway in Bago Region during the early hours of March 8. The operation was jointly carried out by the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) from Waw Township and Kawa Township, utilizing three 107mm rockets in the assault. A responsible official from the Waw Township PDF confirmed the attack to local media sources.
The Nyaung Khar Shay checkpoint, situated at the border between Bago Region and Mon State, has been identified as a major obstacle for revolutionary forces, particularly serving as a key inspection point along weapons and ammunition transportation routes. While the exact casualties and damage inflicted on military council troops could not be immediately verified, the attacking forces were able to successfully withdraw from the operation without sustaining any casualties. The checkpoint has been a significant challenge for the revolutionary movement, with multiple previous instances of weapons shipments being intercepted at this location.
A spokesperson from the Waw Township PDF explained that the checkpoint represents a substantial barrier to revolutionary activities, necessitating systematic efforts to dismantle it. The official elaborated that the checkpoint has repeatedly intercepted arms shipments, making it a critical challenge for revolutionary operations. As a result, they plan to continue targeting this checkpoint to facilitate smoother revolutionary activities in the region. The coordinated attack demonstrates the growing capabilities of resistance forces in conducting strategic operations against military infrastructure, particularly targeting locations that impede their logistical operations and movement of supplies.
