On March 8, revolutionary forces launched simultaneous attacks on three military council positions in Longlone town, Tanintharyi Region, beginning around 6 AM. The targeted locations included the police station, General Administration Department office, and local security force office. The fighting continued until approximately noon, after which the revolutionary forces withdrew from the area. During the confrontation, the military council’s navy and troops from Dawei city continuously fired heavy artillery at Longlone town and surrounding villages, forcing many local residents to flee to safety.
Following the conclusion of the fighting, military council forces closed off the Kyamaukgyi Bridge, which connects Dawei and Longlone, and began reinforcing their troops in the area. According to local residents, the military continues to launch artillery attacks from both Dawei and naval positions. The closure of the Kyamaukgyi Bridge has completely restricted civilian movement, and there are concerns about additional military reinforcements arriving from the Dawei area. Revolutionary organizations have issued warnings to residents of Longlone and nearby villages to remain vigilant due to the possibility of military council airstrikes in the area.
The military council’s response to the attacks has created a humanitarian concern, with civilians caught in the crossfire and forced to evacuate their homes. The continuous artillery bombardment of civilian areas demonstrates the military’s disregard for civilian safety. Local resistance groups have emphasized the need for residents to take precautionary measures and remain alert to potential escalation in military actions, including possible air attacks. The situation remains tense as the military council continues to strengthen its presence in the area while maintaining artillery attacks on civilian populations.
