Revolutionary forces launched simultaneous attacks on three military council positions in Longlone town, Tanintharyi Region, at around 6 AM on March 8. The targeted locations included the police station, General Administration Office, and Military Security Force office, according to local residents. Since the beginning of the clashes, the military council’s navy and troops from Dawei have been continuously firing heavy artillery at Longlone town and surrounding villages. Due to this bombardment, many local residents have been forced to flee to safer locations.
The fighting ended around noon, and after the revolutionary forces withdrew, the military council forces closed off the Kyamaukkin Bridge connecting Dawei and Longlone, while reinforcing their troops in the area. Despite the end of direct combat, the military council forces continued their artillery bombardment, with both Dawei-based troops and naval forces conducting joint firing operations, according to locals. The closure of Kyamaukkin Bridge has completely halted civilian movement, while reports indicate additional military forces are arriving from the Dawei direction.
Revolutionary organizations have issued warnings to local residents to remain vigilant as the military council forces might conduct aerial attacks on Longlone town and nearby villages. The continuous artillery bombardment by military council forces has caused panic among local residents, with some fleeing to safer locations while others remain sheltered in their homes. The artillery attacks have reportedly caused damage to several civilian homes in the area. The situation remains tense as military council forces continue to strengthen their presence in the region while maintaining artillery fire on civilian areas.
