A representative from the Kyunsu Township People’s Defense Force has confirmed that their forces successfully attacked military council naval vessels near Wantaung village in Tanintharyi Region, resulting in casualties among military council forces. The incident occurred on March 26 at approximately 10:45 AM when resistance forces launched an offensive against two military vessels, including Naval Vessel 114, as they approached Wantaung village from the direction of Shawtawmaw village in Kyunsu Township.
During the engagement, resistance forces employed small arms and 40mm mortars to target the military vessels, achieving direct hits that resulted in explosions near the vessels. The military council’s Naval Vessel 566 responded with heavy weapons fire, while three additional military vessels from the Samun, Mingkhaungsei, and Shinmyat areas arrived as reinforcements in the Shawtawmaw area. The battle lasted approximately one hour and twenty minutes, with resistance forces successfully withdrawing without suffering any casualties. During the conflict, indiscriminate firing from military council naval vessels caused damage to a telecommunications tower in Wantaung village.
While the exact number of military council casualties could not be confirmed, resistance forces reported observing smoke rising from one of the vessels following successful hits from 40mm mortar rounds. The People’s Defense Force spokesperson verified that their forces achieved their objectives while maintaining their own safety throughout the operation. The engagement demonstrates the continuing resistance against military council forces in the region, with local defense forces maintaining their capability to conduct effective operations against military vessels despite facing superior firepower.
