A spokesperson from the Shwebo Township People’s Defense Force has confirmed that resistance forces successfully intercepted and attacked a military council supply convoy returning from Shwebo city in Sagaing Region, resulting in the capture of one vehicle and cooking oil supplies after military personnel fled the scene. The incident demonstrates the continuing resistance operations against military council forces in the region.
The engagement occurred on March 14, 2024, when approximately 50 military council troops from Ziphyukone Pyusawthi village, Panhan Pyusawthi village, and Zeikone Lay Pyusawthi village were traveling in three vehicles to collect supplies from Shwebo city. Revolutionary forces launched an ambush along the Shwebo-Yeu road corridor. The firefight lasted more than an hour, beginning at approximately 3:40 PM and continuing until 4:45 PM. During the engagement, one of the military vehicles veered off the road and crashed into a roadside ditch, causing the military personnel to scatter and retreat in disarray.
Following the military council forces’ withdrawal, resistance forces secured significant supplies including one supply truck, one barrel of cooking oil, and six 10-gallon containers of cooking oil. The vehicle that had crashed into the ditch proved difficult to recover or transport, leading the resistance forces to destroy it by setting it on fire. While casualties were likely inflicted on the military council forces, the exact number could not be independently verified. The successful operation represents a significant blow to the military council’s logistical capabilities in the area.
The coordinated attack was carried out under the command of the Shwebo Township PDF commander, involving multiple resistance groups including the Shwebo Township PDF Strike Force (PDO), Township 5 PDF Combat Unit, Galon Gyi PDF, Bilu Brothers PDF, Wave Front Group, AK PDF, Township 1 Golden Future Force PDF, MC PDF, and the Tagana Nagar Min PDF. Resistance representatives noted that this marks the second military council supply vehicle destroyed in the Shwebo area during March, highlighting the ongoing effectiveness of resistance operations against military logistics in the region. The successful operation demonstrates the growing coordination and capabilities of resistance forces in disrupting military council supply lines and operations in the Sagaing Region.
