Resistance forces conducted three attacks on military council vessels carrying weapons and supplies along the Chindwin River in Mawlaik and Phaungpyin Townships of Sagaing Region’s Mawlaik District, resulting in five military casualties and the destruction of one military vessel and four motorboats. On July 25 and 26, resistance forces attacked 23 military council vessels near Kawei village in Mawlaik Township using heavy and light weapons, killing five soldiers and wounding eight others while inflicting damage on multiple vessels.
Subsequently, on July 28, another attack was launched on a military convoy carrying weapons and supplies near Setaw village in Phaungpyin Township, resulting in several vessels being destroyed by fire. The military vessel convoy, which initially departed from Monywa with 28 ships, was reduced to 23 vessels by the time it reached the Mawlaik District operational area. The convoy arrived at Phaungpyin on July 27 and departed at 5 AM on July 28, continuing upstream to Homalin, where they are currently docked at the port. Intelligence sources suggest the convoy may proceed to Kanti, though there are initial reports indicating they might return downstream in the coming days.
During the attacks, the military council forces responded with 122mm artillery, point-blank weapons, and point-8 weapons, while also employing air support from fighter jets. The coordinated attacks were carried out by multiple resistance forces including Mawlaik District Command Office troops, Battalions 1, 2, 3, and 4, People’s Defense Forces from Mawlaik and Phaungpyin Townships, regional armed forces, and artillery units from Kanti, Tamu, and Katha Districts. The successful operations demonstrated the growing capabilities and coordination of resistance forces in challenging the military council’s supply lines along crucial waterways.
