The Karen National Union (KNU) Myeik-Dawei District’s Department of Public Relations and Information has announced that resistance forces successfully attacked military council troops near Theinkone village along the Thai-Myanmar border in Tanintharyi Township, resulting in at least 10 military casualties and the seizure of various weapons. The clash occurred on September 11 in the KNU-controlled territory of Kawthoolei, specifically near Theinkone village along the Maw Mountain trade route on the Thai-Myanmar border in Tanintharyi Township. The area is considered a strategically important border region in southern Myanmar where frequent clashes occur between revolutionary forces and military council troops.
The attack was carried out through a coordinated effort between the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) Battalion 11 under Military Division 4 and allied revolutionary forces. During the engagement, resistance forces managed to capture significant military equipment from the military council troops, including two MA1 rifles, one MA3 rifle, two hand grenades, 659 rounds of ammunition, two explosive devices, and 21 ammunition magazines. This successful operation demonstrates the growing capabilities of resistance forces in the region and their continued efforts to challenge military council control in border areas. The seized weapons and ammunition represent a significant loss for the military council forces and will bolster the resistance’s military capabilities.
This battle took place during a period of increased military council offensive operations in the region. The revolutionary forces continue to engage in defensive operations with the primary objective of protecting local civilians’ security and rights. The ongoing resistance against the military council is driven by the latter’s continued oppression and human rights violations against civilian populations in the area. The resistance forces maintain their commitment to defending local communities while systematically responding to military council aggression. This incident represents another significant confrontation in the broader conflict between pro-democracy forces and the military council, which has intensified since the 2021 military coup.
