In numerous cities including Sagaing, Sintgaing, Myittha, Inle, and Yamethin, rescue operations are facing critical challenges due to insufficient rescue personnel and equipment while many civilians remain trapped under collapsed buildings following the earthquake. Family members of those trapped are desperately calling for assistance in rescue efforts.
Two days after the powerful earthquake struck on March 28, rescue operations remain inadequate despite the rising death toll as of March 30. Aftershocks continue to occur in the region, with recorded magnitudes of 5.1 near Naypyidaw, 4.2 near Shwebo, and 5.1 near Mandalay, according to seismic reports. The continuous aftershocks are hampering rescue efforts and causing additional concerns for the safety of both survivors and rescue workers.
The affected regions are experiencing severe challenges due to power outages leading to water supply disruptions, while internet blackouts are severely limiting access to emergency information and coordination efforts. Displaced residents have sought temporary shelter in monasteries and along roadsides, creating an urgent need for ready-to-eat food, drinking water, temporary shelters, and personal hygiene items. Despite the tireless efforts of civilian volunteers in rescue operations, the lack of proper equipment and resources continues to pose significant challenges to the rescue and relief efforts. The situation remains critical as time passes, with an increasing need for coordinated rescue efforts and essential supplies to support the affected populations.
