While search and rescue operations have been suspended for those trapped in the southern section of the Sky Villa condominium in Mandalay, rescue efforts continue for victims potentially trapped in the northern section, according to rescue workers on the ground. A member of the Chinese rescue team confirmed that the suspension of operations in the southern section was due to there being no survivors remaining in that area.
Currently, due to the extensive damage across Mandalay, skilled rescue personnel have been deployed throughout the city to conduct rescue operations, with international rescue teams from Russia, India, China, and other countries providing assistance. The rescue workers are operating under dangerous conditions as aftershocks continue to occur, making their mission to save those trapped under collapsed buildings particularly challenging and risky.
According to a statement from the Fire Services Department, on March 31, their personnel worked alongside rescue teams from the People’s Republic of China at the collapsed Sky Villa site, successfully rescuing two women alive while also recovering the bodies of two deceased women. The Fire Services Department has confirmed that rescue operations will continue as they search for any remaining survivors or victims in the structure. The collaborative effort between local and international rescue teams demonstrates the ongoing commitment to finding and saving any possible survivors despite the hazardous conditions and structural instability caused by continuing aftershocks in the region.
