
A spokesperson from Operation Flame has confirmed an attack using a remote-controlled mine targeting military council forces who were collecting illegal fees from civilian vehicles near the ticket gate at the Thanlyin Bridge descent in Thanlyin Township, Yangon Region. The incident occurred around 10 AM on May 21, specifically targeting traffic police under the military council and security forces who were stationed at the location. This particular spot has been known as a regular checkpoint where military council forces routinely collect unauthorized payments from civilians.
According to the Information and Communication Officer of Operation Flame, the attack employed a high-powered remote-controlled mine, and there were likely casualties among the military council forces. The spokesperson confirmed that all revolutionary forces safely withdrew from the area after completing the operation. Local residents in the Thanlyin area have also verified the occurrence of the explosion at the bridge checkpoint. The attack specifically targeted the military council’s traffic police and security forces who have been consistently extorting money from public transportation vehicles at this location.
Operation Flame, which is one of the revolutionary groups operating within the Yangon Region, has declared its commitment to continue fighting against the military dictatorship in collaboration with other Yangon Revolutionary Alliance members. The group stated that such attacks are carried out in response to the military council’s oppression of civilians and their illegal collection of money from the public. This operation represents part of the ongoing resistance against the military council’s systematic exploitation of civilians through unauthorized checkpoints and extortion practices. The group has emphasized that they will continue to conduct high-intensity operations against the military council forces in coordination with all revolutionary allies in the Yangon region.
