According to Mae Sot-based media outlets in Thailand, refugees who fled to Thailand following the battle for the military council’s Maw Phar Thu camp in KNU Brigade 7 territory along the Thai-Myanmar border in Myawaddy Township, Karen State, have now returned to their homes. The 215 civilians who were displaced by the fighting had initially fled to Thailand on April 18, and have now returned to their residences after the situation stabilized.
The Maw Phar Thu military camp, situated adjacent to the Thai-Myanmar border, was a strategically important military council outpost monitoring cross-border movements. KNLA-led revolutionary forces launched their offensive against the camp on April 18 and successfully captured it on the evening of April 19. During the operation, the resistance forces seized a significant cache of weapons and ammunition from the military council troops. The camp’s capture represents a notable strategic victory for the revolutionary forces in the border region.
Thai media sources report that the Thai military has increased security measures along the border in response to the ongoing conflicts in KNU Brigade 7 territory. The enhanced security presence aims to maintain stability in the border region and prevent disruption to local civilians’ daily lives. While the displaced residents have safely returned to their homes, local sources indicate that residents must remain vigilant due to the possibility of continued military engagements in the area. The successful operation against the Maw Phar Thu camp demonstrates the growing capabilities of resistance forces in challenging military council control over strategic positions along the border.
