A disturbing incident in Thayetkone Township, Bago Region, has shocked local residents. On June 13, 2023, at 7:00 AM, Myo Aung, a member of the People’s Security Force (Pyu Saw Htee) from Ward No. 1, died after being beaten by military personnel as punishment for reporting late to his duty. The incident has highlighted the brutal treatment of even those serving under military authority.
According to local residents, Myo Aung was part of a family deeply involved with the Pyu Saw Htee organization, with both his father and younger brother also serving as members. As the eldest son, Myo Aung was assigned security patrol duties. The fatal incident occurred when military personnel administered physical punishment for his tardiness, which resulted in his death. The military later informed his family about the death.
The situation in Thayetkone Township has become increasingly tense as the military has heightened security measures in response to the expanding control of People’s Defense Forces (PDF) and their successful attacks on military outposts reaching into urban areas. This has created an atmosphere of fear and anxiety among both military personnel and Pyu Saw Htee members. The heightened tension has led to frequent disputes between the military and Pyu Saw Htee members over security responsibilities, resulting in conflicts and mutual blame for security failures.
This incident serves as a stark example of the military’s violent practices and cruel treatment of even their subordinate forces, raising further concerns among local residents. While the military notified Myo Aung’s family of his death, such incidents have only served to escalate tensions in the region. The event has exposed the harsh realities faced by those serving under military authority and the brutal methods employed in maintaining control, even over their own allied forces.
